Niloufar Iravani is an Iranian-American composer who has received many commissions and awards, including commissions from the League of American Orchestras (LAO) and the Louisiana Music Teachers Association (LMTA), as well as awards such as first prize in the Southeastern Composers League’s 2018 Philip Slates Memorial Competition and third prize in the 2020 Darkwater Women in Music Festival Composition Competition. She was also a finalist in Smackdown String Quartet V and VII and the ASCAP Foundation’s 2018 Morton Gould Young Composer Awards.
Her music has been presented by distinguished artists and ensembles such as the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, Constanta Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana Sinfonietta, and Invoke String Quartet, and several of her works have been published by Conners Publications. Composing both acoustic and electroacoustic music, she has served as an adjudicator for the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS) National Conference and as a reviewer for the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC). Iravani received a Bachelor’s in Piano Performance and a Master’s in Composition from the University of Tehran, and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Composition from Louisiana State University.
